COUNTDOWN

ALL THINGS TRAVEL

FLIGHTS

There are select direct flights depending on your origin. Many flights from the United States will first stop in Mexico City, Dallas Fort Worth, or Guadalajara. From there, you can catch a short connecting flight directly to Oaxaca City (OAX).

If you’re coming from Los Angeles, Volaris offers a direct flight to Oaxaca on Wednesdays. This is the fastest option and why we have (optional) festivities starting on Wednesday night.

MAJOR PSA:

Volaris and Viva Aerobus are known to oversell flights, so we strongly urge you to pay extra to reserve your seat when booking. (We learned this the hard way). Download the app, check-in the day before, and plan to arrive at the airport well ahead of your departure time. I'm talking 3 hours MINIMUM, as check-in can be busy and they WILL sell your seat. If you are unable to check-in online the day before the flight make sure you go to the airport extra, extra early. We'd hate for you to miss your flight!

ANOTHER PSA:

Our wedding falls the weekend before Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the most beautiful and vibrant time in Oaxaca when the city comes alive with celebrations, art, and culture. It’s a unique experience, but it’s also a very busy season. We urge you to book your flights and accommodations well in advance, as demand is high and options will be limited and prices will increase significantly closer to the date.

WHERE TO STAY

Oaxaca's historic center, known as Oaxaca Centro, is a vibrant and walkable area brimming with cultural sites, markets, and restaurants. To fully immerse yourself in the city's charm, we recommend staying in the proximity of the Church of Santo Domingo. One of the most iconic landmarks in the city.

By this time many hotels will already be sold out! If you are having trouble finding a place to stay, please reach out we can help you.

Hotels

OR

There are some great affordable boutique hotels in Centro including Hotel Sin Nombre, Majagua Boutique Hotel, La Casa Del Sótano...

Airbnbs

Oaxaca Centro offers numerous Airbnb accommodations, ranging from modern apartments to traditional homes. These options provide a home-like atmosphere and are ideal for groups or those seeking a unique experience.

Transport

To make your travel as smooth as possible, we will provide transport from the airport to Oaxaca Centro, about a 30 minute drive. Just let us know your arrival time and accommodation location, and we’ll take care of the rest!

Oaxaca centro is small and can be explored by foot there are also ample taxis if needed.

Our wedding venue is one hour away from Oaxaca Centro. We will provide transportation to our venue and at multiple times through the night back to Oaxaca Centro.

Post-Wedding

As our wedding is on Friday, it is up to you what day you leave. Whether you choose to go home, stay in Oaxaca for Día de los Muertos, relax on the beach in Puerto Escondido, or enjoy the incredible food in Mexico City, you can't go wrong!

Come hungry, come curious, &

get ready to fall in love with Oaxaca!

Oaxaca is a sensory playground full of vibrant culture, rich history, and some of the best food in the world. Whether you're here for a quick visit or making it a week-long adventure, we’ve rounded up our must-do experiences to make your trip unforgettable.

Food & Drink

Head to Mercado 20 de Noviembre to taste Oaxaca’s version of a Mexican pizza—tlayudas—crispy tortillas topped with beans, cheese, and savory meats, cooked to perfection. Pro tip: Pair it with a cold agua fresca!

Stroll through the zócalo (main square) for empanadas, memelas, and esquites—street corn that dreams are made of.

Oaxaca is the birthplace of mezcal, so dive into the world of smoky spirits with a guided tasting or visit a mezcalería (or three).

Treat yourself to elevated Oaxacan cuisine at Casa Oaxaca or Los Danzantes.

Cultural Experiences

Wander the ancient Zapotec ruins at Monte Albán, just outside the city. The sweeping views of the valley are worth the climb, and the history is awe-inspiring.

Pick up a handmade rug or shawl from local artisans at Teotitlán del Valle. These treasures tell a story and make for stunning souvenirs.

The iconic baroque Church of Santo Domingo is breathtaking inside and out. Don’t forget to visit the adjoining botanical gardens for a peaceful escape.

Local Markets

Mercado Benito Juárez is a feast for the senses! Shop for colorful pottery, spices, and mole to take a bit of Oaxaca home with you.

Tlacolula Market (especially on Sundays) is a vibrant weekly market outside the city where you can shop, snack, and people-watch to your heart’s content.

Nature & Adventure

About an hour's drive from the city are the petrified waterfalls and mineral pools of Hierve el Agua. Take a dip and snap some epic photos.

Mitla is another archaeological site worth visiting. Known for its intricate stonework and cultural significance.

Día de los Muertos

Oaxaca comes alive in the weeks leading up to Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and you'll be here just in time to see the city buzzing with preparations! Expect vibrant ofrendas (altars), marigold-filled markets, and lively calendas (street parades). If your schedule allows, consider staying through the weekend after our wedding to experience the main festivities. From cemetery vigils to spirited street parties, it’s a magical celebration that honors loved ones with food, music, and joy.

Are kids allowed?

As much as we love little ones, this is an adults-only celebration. We hope you can enjoy this special time as a getaway for yourselves!

Do I get a +1?

If your RSVP says "and Guest," then yes! If not, we are only able to accommodate those listed.

What do I wear?

What about shoes?

Our wedding takes place outdoors in desert terrain, so closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended for your comfort and safety for navigating the landscape. Sturdy heels are great! Feel free to bust out your best cowboy boots.

As for Oaxaca Centro, it's mostly cobblestone streets. So good walking shoes are recommended. On Thursday we will be parading through the streets, so wear what you feel most comfortable in!

Will it be cold?

While Oaxaca centro is warm, our ceremony and reception venue can get chilly and windy, especially at night. Time to whip out the leather & fur! Please bring a warm jacket, shawl, or coat to stay comfortable while dancing under the stars. Layers are key for enjoying the full day and night comfortably!

Anything else?

Not to sound like a broken record, but please book your travel & accommodations asap!

The outlets are the same but consider packing a portable phone charger to ensure your devices stay ready for photos and videos.

Most importantly, come ready to laugh, dance, eat, drink, and make unforgettable memories with us!

We can’t wait to see you in Oaxaca!
